The Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) is taking part in the Cambridge Science Festival in 2016 with two free events at Madingley Hall on Sunday 20 March.
Sunday 20 March 2016, 2.30pm, Madingley Hall, Dr Judith Croston
Intricate images from modern telescopes reveal the beauty and complexity of our Universe, but aren't always easy to understand. In this talk, Dr Judith Croston explores how astronomers translate and combine telescope measurements to create images that are both beautiful and scientifically useful, and how our increasingly detailed view of planets, stars and galaxies has solved some mysteries, but created others. (Talk, ages 12+)
Sunday 20 March 2016, 3.45pm, Madingley Hall, Dr Ed Turner, Dr Judith Croston et al.
Based on the popular radio show, this event takes a light-hearted look at science. A panel of Cambridge scientists will be challenged to smuggle as many scientific truths past their colleagues as possibly, by cunningly hiding them among lies. It is the job of the rest of the panel to correctly spot these truths. This exciting event will give the audience a chance to learn more about what is true – and untrue – in the world of science. (Talk, all ages)
