This course is an opportunity to explore Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, one of the best-loved works of English literature. We will journey alongside five pilgrims – the Knight, the Wife of Bath, the Clerk, the Pardoner, and the Nun’s Priest – by reading their prologues and tales in translation. Sometimes humorous and rude, sometimes moral and reflective, these wide-ranging and vivid stories offer insights into Chaucer’s literary style, 14th-century society, and the intricacies of human nature.
