Cambridge is famous for close reading as the foundation of literary study. This course will examine just ten British and American poems from the hundred years beginning in 1880. The poets will probably include W B Yeats, Edwin Arlington Robinson, W H Auden, Elizabeth Bishop and Thom Gunn, and will be studied as contrasting pairs.
